Riverview Grand Prix Cancelled

It is with great regret that the Riverview Grand Prix Organizing Committee must advise that the RGP Criterium and Kids' Races scheduled for Sunday May 29, 2011 are cancelled.

A  large, deep and dangerous sinkhole has developed in the center of one of the race route streets, and the Borough will be unable to effect a repair in time to permit the race to proceed safely. Alternate routes were explored, but the route is in Oakmont's dense residential and commercial zone and there were few options even to consider. In the final analysis,  no sufficiently safe alternate exists consistent with USAC permits and State and local road closure permits and regulations.

Rider safety must be our paramount concern, and compels this unfortunate decision. We are thankful that the hazard emerged in time for this announcement, giving at least some advance notice. Had it developed on Friday or Saturday it would be all the more problematic for so many of you, especially those who had planned more distant travel.

We hope that you are able to find another event to test yourselves, or that you will enjoy the day of rest.

We looked forward to a great day of racing, and are as disappointed to make this decision as you are to hear it.

Please stay alert for future announcements regarding the Riverview Grand Prix.

Thanks in advance for circulating this message to all concerned parties.
